The Order of Saint George the Winner, or George Cross, was instituted by an emperor Alexander I on the 13th of February, 1807 for rewarding lower army ranks for "military merits and brevity against enemies". The sign was a silver cross without enamel and was worn on the chest on a black-yellow(orange) order ribbon of the Order of Saint George the Martyr and the Winner.
