Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin (1832-1898) is one of the biggest Russian landscape painters, a draughtsman, an engraver. He conveyed the grandeur and the might of Russian nature, its vast expanses with special mastery. The majority of Shiskin's works is devoted to the portrayal of forests. "The midday", "In the Moscow environs", "The Rye Field", "The Forest Horizons", "Morning in a Pine Forest", "Rain in the Oak Grove", "Mast Tree Grove" are among his works. Shishkin's portrait, made by I.N.Kramskoy, (1880, The State Russian Museum) is depicted on the stamp.
