On August 31, an envelope with a commemorative stamp dedicated to the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture was put into postal circulation

The All-Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture (VOOPIK) is a public organization that was established in the RSFSR in 1965, and continues its work to this day. The basic goals of the society’s activities are the protection, restoration and promotion of cultural heritage sites (historical and cultural monuments) of the Peoples of the Russian Federation. The initiators of VOOPIK’s founding were V. Kochemasov, a Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR, who became the first Chairman of VOOPIK; writers L. Leonov and O. Volkov; painters I. Glazunov, P. Korin, and N. Plastov; composer G. Sviridov; Hermitage Director B. Piotrovsky; and Academicians of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR I. Petryanov-Sokolov and B. Rybakov. Several sections were established within the VOOPIIK branches, including those for architecture, history, propaganda, monuments of musical culture and choreographic art, monuments of science and technology, local history, and others.

During the decades of the activities, thanks to the efforts of the Society thousands of cultural heritage sites were protected from demolition and restored.

The envelope with the original stamp provides an image of the Staraya Ladoga fortress (Staraya Ladoga Historical, Architectural, and Archaeological Museum-Reserve); the commemorative stamp features the building of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture.

In addition to the issue of the envelope with a commemorative stamp, JSC Marka produced special cancels for Moscow and St. Petersburg.
