On June 26, a postage stamp dedicated to sailing sport was put into postal circulation in the Sports series

Sports are forms of athletic activity that have been evolving over time and developed into distinct disciplines, such as track-and-field athletics, football, basketball, swimming, and others. Currently, there are approximately 200 different athletic disciplines worldwide.

Sailing is a kind of aquatic sport in which athletes compete using harness rigging. Competitions are held on boats (yachts) or sports implements (e.g., boards) that are propelled owing to wind power. Sailing sport can be practiced not only in summer on water, but also in winter on ice. In wintertime, sailing competitions are held on implements mounted on skates or skis. Such ice yachts are referred to as ice-boats. On land, competitions are held for wheeled and beach (sand) yachts. The design of yachts and sailing rigging makes it possible to move not only downwind, but also angle wise to it. Moreover, about-ship (making turns) enables modern yachts to move upwind. Sailing competitions are a single race or consist of a series of races (regatta). Races are speed races tasked to determine which boat is the fastest at the set distance. All yachts in the same group are given a start simultaneously. The winner is the one that passes by all the buoys in the correct sequence and from the right side and gets to the finish line faster than other vessels. At the end of the race, the yacht receives a certain number of points according to the place occupied. The points are summed up. Today, the governing body for sailing sport in Russia is the All-Russian Sailing Federation.

The postage stamp provides an image of sailing boats during a regatta.

In addition to the issue of the postage stamp, JSC Marka produced First Day Covers and special cancels for Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yevpatoria of the Republic of Crimea and Pereslavl-Zalessky of the Yaroslavl Region, as well as a maxi-card.
