Sports are forms of athletic activity that have been evolving over time and developed into distinct disciplines, such as track-and-field athletics, football, basketball, swimming, and others. Currently, there are approximately 200 different athletic disciplines worldwide.
Sailing is a kind of aquatic sport in which athletes compete using harness rigging. Competitions are held on boats (yachts) or sports implements (e.g., boards) that move owing to wind power. Sailing sport can be practiced not only in summer on water, but also in winter on ice. In wintertime, sailing competitions are held on implements mounted on skates or skis. Such ice yachts are referred to as ice-boats. On land, competitions are held for wheeled and beach (sand) yachts. Today, the governing body for sailing sport in Russia is the All-Russian Sailing Federation.
