On June 18, two postage stamps dedicated to fauna were put into postal circulation in the framework of the joint issue of the Russian Federation and the Republic of the Philippines

June 2 of 2026 marks the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of the Philippines. To celebrate this event, the two countries will issue a joint series of postage stamps featuring wildlife. Russia and the Philippines are countries with rich fauna, at the same time, each of them has unique species of animals.

The greater jerboa is a dweller of open spaces, inhabiting deserts, forest-steppe and steppe zones. It is active predominantly at night, while during the day, it spends time in a burrow, escaping from the heat. It is the largest of all jerboa species, with a relatively short body (18.7–26 cm), and a tail shaped like a bird's feather, which is 1.3 times longer than the body (25-30.5 cm). This part of the animal's body performs several important functions: it helps maintain balance during sharp turns and maneuvers, quickly change directions of movement, protect the animal when fleeing away from the enemy, as well as preserve depot fat.

The Philippine mouse deer is a species of mammals in the Tragulidae family, endemic to Balabac Island and the nearby smaller islands (Bugsuk and Ramos) southwest of the Palawan Province in the Philippines. Its coat is black and brown with white stripes on the neck and chest. Males have no horns like a genuine deer. For self-defense or territorial fights with other males, he uses large, tusk-like fangs on his upper jaw. It is a solitary nocturnal animal, but sometimes occurs in pairs. During the day, it takes refuge in forests; at sunset, it goes into mangroves and to more open places in search for food.

The postage stamps provide images of the greater jerboa living in Russia and the Philippine mouse deer living in the Philippines.

In addition to the issue of the postage stamps, JSC Marka produced First Day Covers and special cancels for Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Orenburg as well as maxi-cards, and a souvenir pack in an illustrated cover with postage stamps, a label and First Day Covers with a cancel for Moscow inside.
