On September 30, a postage stamp dedicated to the 100th Birth Anniversary of Vera Vasilyeva, an actress, a People’s Artist of the USSR, was put into postal circulation in the Cavaliers of the Order for Merit to the Fatherland series



Vera Vasilyeva (1925–2023) was a Soviet and Russian theater and movie actress, an Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1954), a People's Artist of the RSFSR (1970), a People's Artist of the USSR (1986). She was a Winner of the Stalin Prize, 1st and 3rd classes (1948, 1951).

Vera Vasilyeva was born on September 30 of 1925 in the village of Sukhoi Ruchey in the Kalinin District of the Kalinin Region (presently, the Tver Region). In 1943, V. Vasilyeva entered the Moscow City Theater School and graduated in 1948. While still a student, she made her film debut in 1945 with a secondary role in the film Twins. She played her first major role in 1947 in I. Pyriev's film The Legend of the Siberian Land. In 1948, the Council of Ministers of the USSR awarded Vera Vasilyeva the Stalin Prize, 1st class for this film.

V. Vasilyeva's filmography lists more than 40 films. From March 27 of 1948, in the space of 75 years, she was an actress of the Moscow Academic Satire Theater. She played over 60 roles. In 1951, the Council of Ministers of the USSR awarded V. Vasilyeva the Stalin Prize, 3rd class, for the performance Wedding with a Dowry. One of her best roles in the theater was Countess Almaviva in V. Pluchek's production of A Mad Day, or The Marriage of Figaro based on the play by Beaumarchais.

The postage stamp provides a portrait of Vera Vasilyeva and the Order For Merit to the Fatherland.

In addition to the issue of the postage stamp, JSC Marka produced First Day Covers and special cancels for Moscow and Tver.
