On April 24, two postage stamps dedicated to the 125th Birth Anniversaries of Marshals of the Soviet Union Filipp Golikov and Vasily Chuikov were put into postal circulation



Filipp Golikov (1900-1980) was a Soviet military commander, a Marshal of the Soviet Union (1961).

Filipp Golikov was born on July 2, 1900 in the village of Borisovaya, Perm Province (presently the Kurgan Region).

In 1940, F. Golikov was appointed Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the General Staff and Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Red Army. On July 5, 1941, he was appointed head of the Soviet military mission to Great Britain and the United States. During the Great Patriotic War, in 1942-1943, he was the commander and the deputy commander of the 4th Shock Army of the Kalinin, Bryansk, Voronezh, Stalingrad and North-Western Fronts. In 1943, the Ostrogozhsk-Rossosh, Voronezh-Kastornaya and Kharkov offensive operations were conducted under the leadership of F. Golikov. In March of 1943, F. Golikov was recalled to Moscow. On April 6 of 1943, he was appointed Deputy People's Commissar of Defense of the USSR for Personnel. From May 1943 to October 1944, he was the Head of the Main Personnel Department of the People's Commissariat of Defense of the USSR. From January of 1958, F. Golikov headed the Main Political Directorate of the Soviet Army and Navy. In 1959, he was promoted to General of the Army.


Vasily Chuikov (1900–1982) was a Soviet military commander, a Marshal of the Soviet Union (1955), a Twice Hero of the Soviet Union (1944, 1945).

Vasily Chuikov was born on February 12, 1900, in Serebryanye Prudy, Tula Province.

During the Soviet-Finnish War, V. Chuikov was sent to North Karelia. Late in 1940, he was appointed military attaché and adviser to the Commander-in-Chief of Chiang Kai-shek's army in China. V. Chuikov participated in establishing a united military front against Japan, which played an important role during the Great Patriotic War.

During the Great Patriotic War in 1942-1943, he was commander and deputy commander of the 4th Shock Army of the Kalinin, Bryansk, Voronezh, Stalingrad and North-Western Fronts. For his out-of-the-box thinking, the ability to change quickly the strategy to a more favorable one and the talent to lead vehement attacks, he received his military nickname - General Storm. Owing to V. Chuikov, assault groups were introduced, which could move swiftly and pound at the most unexpected moment. With his soldiers, V. Chuikov participated in dozens of key operations: in Belarus, in the Donbass, in the Vistula and Oder region.

V. Chuikov was the Commander-in-Chief of the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany (1949-1953), the Commander of the Kiev Military District (1953-1960), the Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces of the USSR - a Deputy Minister of Defense of the USSR (1960-1964), the Head of the Civil Defense Forces of the USSR (1961-1972).

The postage stamps provide portraits of Marshals of the Soviet Union Filipp Golikov and Vasily Chuikov.

In addition to the issue of the postage stamps, JSC Marka produced First Day Covers and special cancels for Moscow, St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Perm and Tula, as well as maxi-cards.
