Filipp Golikov (1900-1980) was a Soviet military commander, a Marshal of the Soviet Union (1961).
During the Great Patriotic War, in 1942-1943, he was the commander and the deputy commander of the 4th Shock Army of the Kalinin, Bryansk, Voronezh, Stalingrad and North-Western Fronts. In 1943, the Ostrogozhsk-Rossosh, Voronezh-Kastornaya and Kharkov offensive operations were conducted under the leadership of F. Golikov. In March of 1943, F. Golikov was recalled to Moscow. On April 6 of 1943, he was appointed Deputy People's Commissar of Defense of the USSR for Personnel. From May 1943 to October 1944, he was the Head of the Main Personnel Department of the People's Commissariat of Defense of the USSR.
From January of 1958, F. Golikov headed the Main Political Directorate of the Soviet Army and Navy. In 1959, he was promoted to General of the Army.
Vasily Chuikov (1900–1982) was a Soviet military commander, a Marshal of the Soviet Union (1955), a Twice Hero of the Soviet Union (1944, 1945).
During the Great Patriotic War, in the autumn of 1942, V. Chuikov was entrusted with the command of the 62nd Guards (8th Guards) Army, which particularly distinguished itself in the Battle of Stalingrad. Owing to V. Chuikov, assault groups were introduced, which could move swiftly and pound at the most unexpected moment. With his soldiers, V. Chuikov participated in dozens of key operations: in Belarus, in the Donbass, in the Vistula and Oder region.
V. Chuikov was the Commander-in-Chief of the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany (1949-1953), the Commander of the Kiev Military District (1953-1960), the Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces of the USSR - a Deputy Minister of Defense of the USSR (1960-1964), the Head of the Civil Defense Forces of the USSR (1961-1972).
