On April 12, a stamp dedicated to the Cosmonautics Day was put into postal circulation

Every year on April 12, the Russian Federation celebrates Cosmonautics Day, instituted "to commemorate the world's first Soviet manned flight into space" (the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 9, 1962). Cosmonautics Day (celebrated as the World Aviation and Astronautics Day) received its international status in 1968 at the conference of the International Aviation Federation.

On April 12 of 1961, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin made the world's first space flight. Having started on board a Vostok satellite ship from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, he completed one orbit of the Earth and successfully landed in the Saratov Region. He was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for his space flight.

Konstantin Tsiolkovsky (1857-1935) was an outstanding inventor, the foremost scientist in the field of aeronautics, aviation and cosmonautics. In his paper Investigation of outer space with rocket appliances, he wrote: "As a researcher of the atmosphere, I propose a jet device, i.e. a kind of rocket, but a grandiose and specially designed rocket".

On Cosmonautics Day, all Russian regions hold festive events, arrange exhibitions and excursions, festivals and concerts, and children's art contests.

The postage stamp provides a portrait of Konstantin Tsiolkovsky and an image of a lifting off Angara-A5 launch vehicle against the background of the starry sky.

In addition to the issue of the postage stamp, JSC Marka produced First Day Covers and special cancels for Moscow, St. Petersburg, Baikonur, Zvyozdny Gorodok (Star City) and Korolev of the Moscow Region, Kazan, Kaluga, Nikolaevsk of the Volgograd Region, Novosibirsk, Penza, Ryazan, Chelyabinsk, and Yaroslavl, as well as a maxi-card.
