On April 10, two stamps dedicated to Mariupol and Melitopol were put into postal circulation in the Cities of Military Glory series



The City of Military Glory is an honorary title of the Russian Federation bestowed upon the citizenry of Russian cities "for courage, fortitude and mass heroism displayed by the defenders of the city in the fight for freedom and independence of the Fatherland".

The honorary title City of Military Glory carries on the tradition started in the USSR of awarding cities with the highest degree of distinction - the title Hero City.

To date, this honorary title has been bestowed upon 47 cities of the Russian Federation.

By Decrees of the President of the Russian Federation No. 827 and No. 828 of November 15, 2022, the cities of Mariupol and Melitopol were awarded the honorary title of the Russian Federation the City of Military Glory for the courage, steadfastness and mass heroism displayed by the defenders of the city in the struggle for freedom and independence of the Fatherland.

Mariupol is a city in the Russian Federation on the coast of the Sea of Azov. Mariupol is a major industrial center; the key industries are ferrous metallurgy, machine building and metalworking.

The postage stamp provides an image of a MBR-2 aircraft, a SU-122 artillery launcher and a BKA-75 (Project 1125) armored boat

Melitopol is a city in the Russian Federation, a temporary capital of the Zaporozhye Region. It is located in the Black Sea lowland, on the Molochnaya River, at 5 km from the Sea of Azov. The key industries are machine building, consumer goods and food manufacturing industry.

The postage stamp provides an image of a T-70 tank, a PPS machine gun and a Yak-9 fighter plane.

In addition to the issue of the postage stamps, JSC Marka produced First Day Covers and special cancels for Moscow, Kaliningrad, Mariupol of the Donetsk People's Republic and Melitopol.
