The City of Military Glory is honorary title of the Russian Federation bestowed upon the citizenry of Russian cities "for courage, fortitude and mass heroism displayed by the defenders of the city in the fight for freedom and independence of the Fatherland".
To date, this honorary title has been bestowed upon 47 cities of the Russian Federation.
By Decrees of the President of the Russian Federation No. 827 and No. 828 of November 15, 2022, the cities of Mariupol and Melitopol were awarded the honorary title of the Russian Federation the City of Military Glory for the courage, steadfastness and mass heroism displayed by the defenders of the city in the struggle for freedom and independence of the Fatherland.
Mariupol is a city in the Russian Federation on the coast of the Sea of Azov. Mariupol is a major industrial center; the key industries are ferrous metallurgy, machine building and metalworking.
