On April 20, an envelope with a commemorative stamp dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Mossovet State Academic Theater was put into postal circulation



The Mossovet State Academic Theater is a drama theater in Moscow, honored with the Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1949) and the Order of Lenin (1973). It was founded in 1923 by writer and stage director Sergei Prokofiev as a theater for workers of the Moscow Provincial Council of Trade Unions (MGSPS). By the decision of the Presidium of the MGSPS of March 3, 1923, the theatre company received its official status of the MGSPS Theater.

In 1930, the theater changed its name to the Theater of the Moscow Regional Council of Trade Unions and in 1938, the Theater gained its present name. In 1940, Yury Zavadsky assumed the position of the chief director of the Theatre. During those years, a brilliant on-stage performance group of the Theater shaped. Yury Zavadsky preserved the theater's reputation of a modern Soviet play laboratory, but significantly changed the means of artistic expression. The chief director headed the Theater for 37 years.

With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the Theater was evacuated to Kazakhstan, where it began its work first in Chimkent, and then in Alma-Ata.

In 1943, the theater returned to the capital and until the end of the war, it not only staged performances, but also gave concerts in factories and hospitals.

In 1952-1953, the Theater was one of the first to go on tour abroad: to Poland, Bulgaria and Romania. In 1964, the theater was given the Academic Theatre status.

Currently, the Main Stage (894 seats) and the Under the Roof Stage (120 seats) offer performances based on play scripts by classic Russian and world playwrights, as well as young writers, staged by directors of different generations and creative positions. The repertoire of the Theater includes 32 productions, representing a wide range of genres and aesthetic trends that are of interest to theatre-goers of all ages.
