On April 5, a stamp dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Sklifosovsky Clinical and Research Institute for Emergency Medicine was put into postal circulation

The Institute was founded in 1923 on the basis of the Sheremetev Hospital, the oldest in Moscow, the former Strannopriimny Dom (Hospitage) as the Emergency Care Institute, which was named after Nikolai Sklifosovsky, the outstanding Russian surgeon, Doctor of Medicine, an innovator scientist and a provider of higher medical education.

Today, the Sklifosovsky Institute is the largest multi-speciality scientific and practical center for emergency and elective care in Russia and the only multi-speciality emergency hospital in Moscow dealing with the problems of emergency surgery, intensive care, concomitant and burning injuries, emergency cardiology and acute poisoning.

The structure of the Institute comprises 30 scientific and 80 clinical departments. About 70 thousand patients receive high-tech medical care in the clinic every year.

The high scientific and practical potential of the staff and up-to-date equipment make it possible to successfully develop new and improve existing diagnostic and treatment methods for emergency conditions, which permits the personnel to treat patients with the most severe and complicated acute surgical diseases and injuries, to consult and transfer patients from other medical institutions to the Institute for treatment.

The postage stamp provides an image of the building of the Sklifosovsky Clinical and Research Institute for Emergency Medicine.

In addition to the issue of the postage stamp, JSC Marka produced First Day Covers and special cancels for Moscow and St. Petersburg.
