Vladimir Kudryavtsev (1923-2007) was a Soviet and Russian legal scholar, a specialist in criminology and criminal law, Doctor of Law, Professor, an Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1973), an Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1984), and an Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (1991).
In 1944-1949, he studied at the Military Law Academy. In 1952, he defended his PhD thesis themed The Problem of Causality in the Soviet Criminal Law.
In 1963, he defended his doctoral thesis upon the subject of Theoretical Bases of Qualification of Crimes, then he was assigned to work in the USSR Prosecutor's Office as a Deputy Director of the All-Union Institute for the Study of Causes and Development of Crime Prevention Measures under the USSR Prosecutor's Office.
Since 1965, Kudryavtsev was a Professor of Criminal Law, and since August of 1969, he headed the Institute. From 1973 to 1989, he was the Director of the Institute of State and Law of the USSR Academy of Sciences and a Vice-President of the USSR Academy of Sciences (RAS) for Social Sciences in 1988-2001.
