The history of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service dates back to September 15, 1922, to the Decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR On Sanitary Agencies of the Republic.
The State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service today is a unified federal centralized system of agencies and institutions performing state sanitary and epidemiological supervision in Russia. The main tasks of the service are preventive and current sanitary and epidemiological surveillance; protection against emerging biological threats; public health study, assessment and forecasting; dynamic monitoring of environmental factors that have harmful and dangerous effects on the human body; identification of causes and conditions of mass infectious diseases and intoxications, etc.
The postage stamp provides an image of the emblem of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing.
