The monument to those who died in the defense of the Fatherland is installed on the 561st kilometer of the Neva highway as part of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the state company Avtodor, in the process of preparing for the commissioning of the highway connecting St. Petersburg and Moscow, decided that it should have its own memorable places. The monument perpetuated the feat of the Red Army soldiers who fought here during the Great Patriotic War. The place for the memorial was not chosen by chance — in Myasny Bor in the Novgorod region, the soldiers of the Volkhov Front held back the advance of German troops. In 1942, fierce battles took place here. The monument in the form of an image of a warrior-defender with a height of 3 meters was made by the creative team of the M. B. Grekov Studio of Military Artists. On the opposite side of the highway there is a chapel-kiosk with icons of the Novgorod Mother of God "The Sign" and Alexander Nevsky.
