The Soviet Soldier Memorial in Rzhev was put up near the village of Khoroshevo of the Rzhevsky District in the Tver Region, on the site of fierce battles of World War II in 1942–1943. Sanguinary battles along the perimeter of the Rzhev-Vyazemsk salient lasted 14 months.
The monument was built on public donations, its construction and opening is one of the key events of the Year of Memory and Glory in Russia.
