The theme of birds is quite popular in the issues of postage stamps of the Russian Federation. In 2019, the brand is dedicated to Siberian Cranes.
The Siberian Crane, or White Crane, is a species of cranes, endemic to the northern territories of Russia. Sterkh breeds exclusively on the territory of Russia. There are two isolated from each other populations of this bird: the western in the Arkhangelsk region, the Republic of Komi and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, and the eastern in the north of Yakutia. In Yakutia, Siberian Cranes nest in deserted, inaccessible areas of tundra, in highly humid lowland areas; in Priobye in the middle of swampy swamps surrounded by a depressed forest.
The Siberian Cranes are endangered and listed in the International Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the Convention on the International Trade in Animals CITES, as well as the Red Book of Russia. Currently, the number of the Yakut population of the species (in the wild) is estimated at about 3000 individuals.
The postage stamp depicts a Siberian Crane with a cub and the Europa logo.
The stamp is also available for viewing in the AR mode in the mARka application.
