The central naval museum is one of the oldest museums of Russia and one of the largest naval museums of the world. It is located in St.-Petersburg. The history of museum dates back to the year of 1709 when under authority of Peter I the Model-chamber, where were stored ship drawings and models, has been based. Originally museum was settled down in building of the Main Admiralty, and in 1939-1941 moved to former Stock exchange building. The central naval museum has four branches: museum on "Aurora" cruiser, museum «Kronshtadskaya fortress», memorial complex “Submarine D-2 “Narodovolets”and museum «Life Road».
