The Russian Economic Academy (REA) named by Plekhanov dates back to 1907 when one of the first in Europe Moscow Commercial Institutes was founded on the basis of two commercial colleges on the initiative of a merchant and a patron of art A.S.Vishniakov. The aim of the creation of this institute was determined in its Charter: "To grant higher commercial and political-economic education". The Institute was renamed to the Moscow Institute of the National Economy in the first years of the Soviet government. The Moscow Institute of the National Economy was named after Georgij Valentinovich Plekhanov in 1924. The Moscow Institute of the National Economy was transformed into the Russian Economic Academy named by G.V.Plekhanov. REA today is the first and the only Russian multiple-discipline educational-scientific and industrial complex, consisting of 10 institutes, 3 university departments and branches. The old building of REA in Moscow and the emblem of the Academy are depicted on the stamp.
