M.A. Vrubel (1856-1910) is a Russian painter, graphic artist, the biggest representative of symbolism and modern in the Russian fine arts. He studied in the Academy of Arts and was one of the most active members of the Mamontov’s artistic society. He painted a number of his best pictures and worked in majolica style in Abramtsevo. His most famous pictures are “The demon (sitting)” (1890), “The Princess Day-dream” mosaic (1896), “The Pan” (1899), “The Swan Princess” (1900). The painter’s self-portrait (1904-1905) is depicted on the stamp.
