The Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (CMAF) is one of the largest museums of military history in the world. It was founded in December 1919.
The museum collection is housed in 24 halls and on an open platform. The collection encompasses more than 800 thousand museum items, which include relics associated with life and career of the heroes of national history, both ordinary and well-known military commanders and public officials alike. Banners, awards, weapons, items of uniforms and equipment of the national Armed Forces and armies of other states, including trophy ones, are also among them. There are more than 150 pieces of weapons and military equipment ranging from artillery dating back to the Civil War (1918-1922) to modern ballistic missiles at the open platform.
CMAF regularly organizes and holds both on its territory and on territories of other museums and showgrounds in Moscow and other Russian regions. CMAF is a member of the Union of Museums of Russia, an institutional member of the International Council of Museums (ICM) and the International Committee of Museums and Collections of Weapons and Military History (ICMCWMH).
