Aleksandrovskaya Sloboda (Alexandrov Kremlin) is an old Russian fortress located in Vladimir Oblast. Founded in 1513, it served as a residence of Ivan the Terrible and was the actual capital of Russia during the 16th century. Now it is a large historical and architectural site consisting of a museum reserve and an acting women Dormition Monastery.
Aleksandrovskaya Sloboda State Historical, Architectural and Artistic Museum Reserve was founded in 1919 but received its federal status as late as in 1994. Restoration work was carried out, and a special museum development concept was devised, according to which the very buildings and their interior became the main objects.
Nowadays, the museum is very popular among tourists. There are 19 permanent expositions and exhibitions located in the white-stone interior, and more than 20 interactive museum programs. Aleksandrovskaya Sloboda also hosts international scientific conferences and Russian culture festivals.
