On June 16, a PCWCS dedicated to the 125th Birth Anniversary of Pavel Poluboyarov, a Marshal of the Armored Forces, a Hero of the Soviet Union, was put into postal circulation in the History of the Armed Forces of Russia series



Pavel Poluboyarov (1901–1984) was a Soviet military commander, a Marshal of the Armored Forces, and a Hero of the Soviet Union.

P. Poluboyarov was born on June 3 (16) of 1901 in the city of Tula. He finished the Tula Infantry Command Courses and the School of the Higher Command Personnel of armored units. He participated in the Russian Civil War on the Southern Front, then in the suppression of the Cossack uprising in the area of Uralsk and the abolition of gangs in the Southern Urals. In 1926, he graduated from the Leningrad Armored Car School, and in 1931, from the TEKO courses in Kazan. In 1938, he finished the Stalin Military Academy of Mechanization and Motorization of the Red Army and advanced training courses for senior officers at the General Staff Academy of the Red Army in 1941.

He took part in the fighting at Khalkhin Gol in 1939 and was awarded his first medal for the distinguished service in battle. He was a participant in the Great Patriotic War from June of 1941. He took part in the counteroffensive at Stalingrad, the Battle of Kursk, and the Zhitomir-Berdychev, Proskurov-Chernovtsy, Lvov-Sandomierz, Carpathian-Dukla, Vistula-Oder, Lower Silesian and Upper Silesian offensive operations, Berlin, and Prague operations.

Since April of 1946, P. Poluboyarov was the Commander of the 5th Guards Tank Army. From March of 1949 he was a Deputy, and since May of 1953 the First Deputy Commander of armored and mechanized troops of the Armed Forces of the USSR. Since May of 1954, he was the head of the armored forces of the Soviet Army. From May of 1969 to the end of his life, he was a military inspector and adviser to the Group of General Inspectors of the USSR Ministry of Defense.

The commemorative stamp provides images of Russian warriors from different ages; the main image features a portrait of Marshal of the Armored Forces P. Poluboyarov against a backdrop of T-34 tanks.

In addition to the issue of the postcard with a commemorative stamp, JSC Marka produced special cancels for Moscow and Tula.
