On March 31, four postage stamps dedicated to ornamental shrubs were put into postal circulation in the Flora of Russia series

Ornamental shrubs are woody plants with numerous bark-covered thin and firm stems, shorter than trees, without a main trunk, with a lush and dense crown. The main species of the underwood are as follows: evergreen deciduous shrubs (boxwood, holly, heather); coniferous bushes (juniper, microbiota, false cypress); leafy shrubs (mock orange, nine-bark, almond); fruit and berry bushes (viburnum, barberis, honeysuckle); and flowering shrubs (forsythia, lilac, acacia).

Shrubs have a number of advantages as compared to trees: rapid development (the seedling reaches its habitual size as early as in 1 to 3 years), small size (up to 3 meters at average), less branchy and powerful rhizome, which simplifies the choice of a place for planting.

Of considerable economic importance are fruit and berry bushes. Ornamental shrubs are mainly used to decorate gardens, parks, squares, and other areas of urban and rural landscapes, as well as for indoor and outdoor landscaping, zoning of territories, and for creating plant hedges. Fruit and berry shrubs are grown to produce delicious and healthy berries.

The postage stamps provide images of common barberies, Tatarian honeysuckle, Russian almond and Elbrus mock orange.

In addition to the issue of the postage stamps, JSC Marka produced First Day Covers and special cancels for Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Pereslavl-Zalessky of the Yaroslavl Region, as well as maxi-cards and an illustrated cover with postage stamps, a label and First Day Covers with a cancel for Moscow inside.
