The history of the TASS news photography dates back to February 1 of 1926, when the ROSTA agency established a workshop for the production of typographic clichés of photographs in order to supply central printed press with literary and illustrative matter. Today, TASS news photography has an extensive network of correspondent offices and is the largest supplier of news photo information, a golden historical collection used by all world news media. Over the years, news photoreporters have been creating a photographic chronicle of Russia's development. The archive contains photos by famous photoreporters, for example, Evgeny Khaldei, who filmed the hoisting of the Soviet flag over the Reichstag, Emmanuel Evzerikhin, Mark Redkin, Max Alpert, Nikolai Kubeev and many others. Owing to the professional staff, the TASS news photography has gained recognition in Russia and around the world; the photojournalists' work has been repeatedly honored with various prizes and high state awards.
