The stone Church of the Epiphany of the Lord was built in 1701 as the Cathedral of the Ostrovsky Epiphany Monastery, founded in the late 15th – early 16th century. This monastery was one of the most important spiritual centers of the Upper Volga region. The temple complex comprises the Churches of the Epiphany of the Lord and of Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky. The Church of the Epiphany on the Island is the place where Admiral Fyodor Ushakov received baptism in his small motherland. During the Soviet period, the Epiphany Church was closed, and its interior was almost completely destroyed. In 2017, the Board of Trustees for the Restoration of the temple complex was established, and the restoration of churches began. Today, both churches are completely restored. A monastic community has been formed in the Bishop's Metochion of the Church of the Epiphany of the Lord, and divine services are held daily. Every year in early August, a celebration takes place here in honor of the anniversary of the glorification of Holy Righteous Warrior Fyodor Ushakov, bringing together many Orthodox Christians from different regions of Russia and foreign countries. The temple is a cultural heritage site of federal significance.
