The event was held in the State Historical Museum in Moscow. The cancellation ceremony was attended by Karina Shcherbak, the Director of the Department of Culture, Sports, Tourism and National Policy of the Government of the Russian Federation; hegumeness Margarita (Feoktistova), the Mother Superior of the Novodevichy Stavropegial Convent; Alexei Levykin, the Director General of the State Historical Museum; and Artem Adibekov, the Director General of Joint-Stock Company Marka.
The Novodevichy Convent was founded in 1524 by Vasily III, the Grand Duke of Moscow, in honor of the return of the city of Smolensk to the Russian lands. Along with the Assumption Cathedral of the Kremlin, built under Ivan III, the Smolensk Cathedral of the Novodevichy Monastery became one of the symbols of the rise of Moscow.
In the 16th-17th centuries, the history of the Novodevichy Convent was closely linked with the fates of reigning dynasties.
During the era of militant atheism, the Novodevichy Convent was abolished, but saved from total devastation by the efforts of the staff of the State Historical Museum. To this day, its collection contains most valuable monuments of iconography, pictorial and applied art, and in 1994, the monastic life revived in the holy nunnery.
The architectural ensemble of the Convent that took shape in the 16th-17th centuries underwent no significant changes. As an exceptionally well-preserved example of the Moscow Baroque, it was entered in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The souvenir sheet provides a panoramic view of the Novodevichy Convent. The Artist is Aleksandr Kulemin. The face value is 200 rubles. The Print Run is 18 thousand sheets.
On December 12, 2024, the souvenir sheets were put into postal circulation in the UNESCO World Heritage series and went on sale in post offices and the Collectioner show room chain throughout the country.
