On November 16, a postage stamp dedicated to the International Educational Campaign Geographical Dictation was put into postal circulation

Since 2015, the Russian Geographical Society has been holding the annual Geographical Dictation. It is an international educational campaign with the task to promote geographical knowledge and increase interest in science and national heritage.

Participation in the dictation is voluntary and free of charge. Participants can be residents of Russia and foreign countries who speak Russian, regardless of age, education, social identity, confession and citizenship. The dictation consists of 30 tasks of varying degree of complexity and involves testing of knowledge of geographical concepts and terms, basic regularities, location of geographical sites on the map and the ability to apply knowledge in practice.

Knowledge of geography is tested on all continents and even for the first time in Antarctica. The dictation shall be written in schools, universities, libraries, museums, youth centers and regional branches of RGO, in caves, airports and many other interesting sites.

In the autumn of 2024, the tenth International Educational Campaign Geographical Dictation will be held in Russia and abroad. The event will take place on November 16 and 17 of 2024.
