On August 30, a souvenir sheet dedicated to the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sergey Konenkov, a sculptor, a graphic artist and an educator was put into postal circulation



Sergey Konenkov (1874–1971) was a sculptor, a graphic artist an educator, an Academician of the USSR Academy of Arts (1954), a People's Artist of the USSR (1958).

The author's creative work is notable for many-sidedness, innovation of artistic solutions, and emotional power of expressive images carrying a philosophical connotation. S. Konenkov created a great number of wooden characters from Slavic fairy tales, stone sculptures of prominent figures, and was one of the first to present nude female characters.

The master's works performed in different materials, such as wood, marble, or bronze, are available in galleries and private collections in Russia and abroad. In 1974, the Creative Workshop of S.T. Konenkov Memorial Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts was opened in Moscow. For today, the permanent exposition is by far the largest and most significant collection of artworks, which most fully represents all stages of the creative biography of the classic of Russian sculpture. Of great value are an extensive library, a collection of photographs, notebooks, manuscripts of articles and books.

The postage stamp provides an image of sculpture Magnolia (1930s), the margins of the souvenir sheet feature the S. Konenkov's portrait against the background of the interior of the Creative Workshop of S.T. Konenkov Memorial Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts.

In addition to the issue of the souvenir sheet, JSC Marka produced First Day Covers and special cancels for Moscow, St. Petersburg and Smolensk, as well as illustrated covers for the souvenir sheet with a label and a First Day Cover with a cancel for Moscow inside and for the second emission type of the souvenir sheet: an imperforated souvenir sheet with embossing.
