On July 31, four stamps dedicated to monuments of Nizhniy Novgorod were put into postal circulation in the Contemporary Art of Russia series




The Contemporary Art of Russia series is reflective of the artwork of contemporary authors who convey the atmosphere of new Russia, its uniqueness and dynamism, demonstrates the techniques and approaches in creating paintings and sculptural compositions inherent in our era.

Igor Brunetkin was born in 1969 in Chelyabinsk. He studied at the Chelyabinsk Art School, and worked in the V. Polyansky's team.

Andrei Kovalchuk was born on September 7, 1959, in Moscow. He is a Soviet and Russian sculptor, a tutor, a professor, the Chairman of the Board of the Union of Artists of Russia (2009). Andrei Kovalchuk is a People's Artist of the Russian Federation, a Winner of the State Prize of the Russian Federation (2007) and the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation (2005).

Alexander Mironov was born in 1976 in Moscow. He graduated from the Surikov Moscow State Art Institute, the Faculty of Sculpture (2002); a postgraduate course at the Institute (2004). A. Mironov is a member of the sculpture section of the Moscow Union of Artists and the Union of Moscow Sculptors (2002); a member of the Association of Sculptors of Quebec, Canada (2011) and a member of the Russian Union of Artists (2014).

Viktor Purikhov was born in 1941 in the village of Bornukovo of the Buturlinsky District, the Gorky Region. In 1967-1971, he studied at the V. Vasnetsov Art School in Abramtsevo. In 1978, he was admitted as a member to the Union of Artists of the USSR. His monumental works are installed in Nizhny Novgorod and the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Many of his artworks are in displays of museums of a number of Russian cities and private domestic and foreign collections.

Alexey Shchitov was born in 1976 in the town of Balakhna, in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. In 2003, he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Monumental and Decorative Sculpture of the Stroganov Russian State University of Design and Applied Arts. A. Shchitov is a member of the Moscow Union of Artists, a participant in numerous sculpture exhibitions, symposia and festivals in Russia and abroad.

The postage stamps show the following:
— sculpture The Postman by I. Brunetkin (2006);
— monument Alexander Nevsky by A. Kovalchuk and A. Mironov (2021);
— monument Prince Yuri Vsevolodovich and Bishop Simon of Suzdal by V. Purikhov (2008);
— sculpture A Merchant with a Samovar by A. Shchitov (2023).

In addition to the issue of the postage stamps, JSC Marka produced First Day Covers and special cancels for Moscow and Nizhniy Novgorod.
