On December 12, a stamp dedicated to the 100th Birth Anniversary of Aleksandr Sukharev, a legal scholar, a statesman, was put into postal circulation in the Outstanding Lawyers of Russia series



Aleksandr Sukharev (1923–2021) was an Actual State Counsellor of Justice, an Honored Lawyer of the RSFSR, an Honored Worker of the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation, an Honorary Worker of the Prosecutor's Office, a Doctor in Law, a professor.

He was born on October 11, 1923, in the village of Malaya Treschevka, of the Zemlyansky District, the Voronezh Region.

In July of 1941, he was called to the Red Army, completed a condensed course at the Voronezh Military School of Communications. He fought on various fronts as a signal company deputy commander, the regimental signals officer, a regimental headquarters, took part in the Battle of Kursk, the assault-crossing of the Dnieper, and the Bagration Operation.

In 1947-1959 he worked in positions of responsibility in the offices of the Zheleznodorozhny District Committee of the Komsomol of Voronezh, of the Voronezh Komsomol Regional Committee and the Central Committee of the Komsomol; in 1959-1970 he worked in the Executive Secretariat of the Central Committee of the CPSU.

In 1950, he graduated from the All-Union Correspondence Law Institute. In September of 1970, Aleksandr Sukharev was appointed the First Deputy Minister of Justice of the USSR; and in 1984, he became the Minister of Justice of the RSFSR.

From February of 1988, he was the First Deputy Prosecutor General of the USSR. From May of 1988 to October of 1990, he held the position of the Prosecutor General of the USSR.

Aleksandr Sukharev is the author of more than 120 scientific papers, including his book Our People's Court, and scientific publications on the problems of fight against crime and shaping the legal consciousness of the population. He participated in drafting the Law on the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation, the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation and other fundamental acts in the field of crime control and protection of the rights of citizens.

The postage stamp provides a portrait of Aleksandr Sukharev.
