On May 30, a postal block dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Republic of Buryatia was put into postal circulation



The Republic of Buryatia is the constituent entity of the Russian Federation, a republic in its composition. It is part of the Far Eastern Federal District. It was founded on May 30, 1923, as the Buryat-Mongolian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. The capital is the city of Ulan-Ude. Population is 975,200. The official languages are Buryat and Russian. The Republic borders on Mongolia, the Tuva Republic, as well as the Irkutsk and Chita Regions.

Buryatia is a leading region of livestock breeding with cattle and sheep breeding being predominant. Besides, the Republic has well developed industry: mining, food industry, mechanical engineering, production of building materials, timber sawing, mechanical woodworking, and production of cardboards, cellulose pulp, paper, wood fiberboards and particleboards.

A modern airport and the Trans-Siberian Railway, which runs through the territory of the Republic of Buryatia, create favorable conditions for transport links not only with all regions of Russia and European countries, but with South-East Asia as well.

The territory of Buryatia accounts for the major part (about 60% of the shoreline) of the world's largest freshwater Lake of Baikal, which has the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The postal block features the coat of arms, natural and architectural landmarks of the Republic of Buryatia in the national ornament design.

In addition to the issue of the postal block, JSC Marka produced First Day Covers and special cancels for Moscow and Ulan-Ude.
