On November 14, a ceremony took place of special cancellation of a postage stamp dedicated to Iosif Kobzon, an artist, public and political figure

The event was attended by Leo Bokeria, the President of the Bakulev National Medical Research Center for Cardiovascular Surgery, a Doctor of Medicine, Professor, an Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Mikhail Shvydkoi, a Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on International Cultural Cooperation, a public figure and statesman; and Nelly Kobzon, the President of the Kobzon Cultural Foundation, an Honored Cultural Worker of the Russian Federation.

Iosif Kobzon (1937-2018) was a Soviet and Russian variety singer, political and public figure, a music educator, a People's Artist of the USSR (1987), a Cavalier of the Order For Merit to the Fatherland, a Hero of Labor of the Russian Federation (2016); he was awarded the Order of Courage and the Order of Friendship of Peoples. The repertoire of the singer numbered more than 1,500 songs, which comprised compositions of quite different genres that formed a song chronicle of the century. High skill, sincere emotion, uniqueness, virtuoso command of the vocal palette, and peculiar magnetism of Iosif Kobzon's performing style will forever remain in the hearts of numerous adorers. Kobzon's political career began in May of 1989, when he was elected People's Deputy of the USSR. From 1997 to 2018, Iosif Kobzon was elected a Deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. In 2003, he was elected the Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Culture, and since January 2012, he was the First Deputy Chairman.

The postage stamp was issued in the frames of the “Cavaliers of the Order For Merit to the Fatherland” series. The postage stamp provides a portrait of Iosif Kobzon and the Order For Merit to the Fatherland. The Print Run of the stamp is 140 thousand stamps.

On November 11, the postage stamp was put into postal circulation and went on sale in post offices throughout the country and the Collectioner show room chain.

Traditionally, issues of the state valuable postal matter of the Russian Federation are timed to landmark historical events, or are dedicated to outstanding personalities, nation-wide projects and major backbone enterprises of the Russian economy.
