On April 18, a stamp dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of Football Club Spartak Moscow was put into postal circulation



Spartak is a Russian professional football club from Moscow. It was founded on April 18, 1922. The current name and the emblem of the club were advanced by Nikolai P. Starostin, a Soviet football and hockey player, one of the first leaders of the Spartak sports society. On April 12, 1935, Spartak played its first game. The match itself was winning for Spartak, it defeated Trekhgorka with a score of 7:1. The match was held at the Trekhgornaya Manufactura stadium, and the game was attended by 5,000 spectators.

Currently, the Spartak Moscow football club is one of the most popular Russian clubs. It ranks among the top 20 most popular clubs in Europe. It is the most decorated football club in Russia: 12-time Champion of the USSR, 10-time Champion of Russia, 10-time Winner of the Cup of the USSR, 3-time Winner of the Cup of Russia, Winner of the Super Cup of Russia, 6-time Winner of the Commonwealth Cup, semifinalist of the three major European club competitions (European Champions Cup, European Cup Winners Cup and UEFA Cup). Spartak is the best Russian club in the history of the Champions League.
