On April, 8, the Art of a Stamp exhibition opened in Vladimir

The Art of a Stamp exhibition of painting and postal miniature in Vladimir is hosted by the Vladimir Regional Scientific Library named after M. Gorky and is timed to the 125th Anniversary of its foundation. The exhibition provides paintings by Russian artists, members of the Union of Artists of Russia and the Russian Academy of Arts, as well as state valuable postal matter dedicated to the Vladimir Region, scientific discoveries, scientists, investigators and inventors.

In the frame of the event, a ceremony was held of the cancellation of a stamped postcard with letter “B” dedicated to the Anniversary of the Vladimir Regional Scientific Library. The print run of the card is 2 thousand items. The cancellation ceremony was attended by Alisa Biryukova, the Director of the Department of Culture of the Vladimir Region; Artem Adibekov, the Director General of JSC Marka; and Tatiana Bragina, the Director of the Vladimir Regional Scientific Library.

The library was opened on May 15, 1897, on the initiative of local intellectuals for private donations. In 1922, the library acquired the status of the central provincial library, and in 1930, that of the central district library. In 1964, the library reveived a new building, where it is located to this day. The library holdings amount to above 2 million keeping units: books, newspapers, magazines, music texts, atlases, patents, etc. The library is not only the largest repository of documents and books in the Region, but also an access point to various electronic resources, a venue for socio-cultural events; its halls regularly hold exhibitions and master classes.

The Art of a Stamp exhibition is a unique joint project of the Russian Academy of Arts, the Union of Artists of Russia, the Moscow Branch of the Union of Artists of Russia, the Moscow Union of Artists and JSC Marka; it is a combined exhibition of painting, graphic works and postal miniature. The Marka Publishers has been producing state valuable postal matter of Russia for over 160 years. The collection of postal stamps, postcards, envelopes and souvenir gifts is annually replenished with new issues dedicated to historical events in Russia, monuments of world cultural and natural heritage, architectural attractions of cities, museums, and outstanding artistic personalities of the country.
