On February 24, 2022, a teleconference of the Steering Committee of the World Association for the Development of Philately of the Universal Postal Union was held under the chairmanship of the Russian Federation represented by Artem Adibekov, the Director General of JSC Marka.
As the outcome of the discussion, the functions and procedures of the Committee were delineated, as well as the prospective work plan and priorities for the period of 2022-2025. The Steering Committee elected 9 members: the Russian Federation (Chairman), Tunisia, the People's Republic of China, the Republic of Cote d'Ivoire, the United Arab Emirates, Luxembourg, Romania, Slovenia, and Turkey.
The principal directions of the activity are the formation of the alliance of the philatelic community and industry (training and round tables, conferences, webinars, etc.), the expansion of sales of stamps and philatelic products by postal operators, the development of the World Stamp Numbering System (WNS), and the fight against illegal issues. Three working groups were shaped for handling of work on the following directions: Philatelic Market chaired by the Russian Federation, Innovations in Philately (chaired by Romania) and Inquiring of the Development of the Quality Mark for Philatelic Products (chaired by Tunisia).
The meeting participants came to an agreement to hold the WADP Conference and the International Competition Class at the International Philatelic Exhibition on August 4-9, 2022, in Jakarta, Indonesia.
