Year of Science and Technology on postcards

A set of 10 stamped postcards dedicated to the Year of Science and Technology has been put into postal circulation. These are the state valuable postal matter to be used for mailing in Russia and around the world.

Each card corresponds to one of the thematic months of the Year of Science and Technology. It features a portrait of a scientist who made a significant contribution to the development of science in this area, a quote, and an illustration of his activities. Among the famous Russian scientists presented are Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, the founder of cosmonautics; Igor Kurchatov, the father of the atomic industry and science; Vladimir Vernadsky, a natural scientist; Ivan Papanin, an explorer of the Arctic; Nikolai Gamaleya, a doctor and microbiologist; and others. The original concept and design belong to ANO National Priorities.

According to Sofia Malyavina, the Director General of the National Priorities, the postcards present achievements and statements of great Russian scientists, who made real breakthroughs in various fields of knowledge, such as: medicine, genetics, geology, cybernetics, quantum physics, electronics, cosmonautics. Having co-ordinated them with the subjects of the Year of Science, an attempt was made to show the continuance of the Russian scientific school, to delineate the scale and timeliness of the tasks that our contemporaries are striving to solve.

Stamped postcards can be purchased at post offices and in the chain of the Collectioner show rooms through the country. The cost of the set is 330 rubles. Each card is a postcard with an already applied stamp; the card can be filled and sent to the addressee via the postal service. In addition to the function of paying for postal services, each copy of the product is a collectible for philatelists.

The issue of the stamped cards has become a part of the philatelic program timed to the Year of Science and Technology. In April 2021, postage stamps featuring modern technological achievements were put into postal circulation, as well as a philatelic album with a collection of postage stamps of the Russian Federation.

According to Artyom Adibekov, the Director General of JSC Marka, it is a satisfaction to know that the state valuable postal matter has become an additional means of promoting the Year of Science and Technology and achievements of Russia in many areas of science. The succinct phrases of scientists and the visualization of their achievements are especially relevant today, and postcards sent around the world will preserve and disseminate this knowledge.

The postcards present the following subjects of the Year of Science and Technology: new manufacturing technologies and materials; space exploration; new medicine; provision of safety and security; human, nature, society and technology; artificial intelligence; energy engineering of the future; genetics and quality of life; climate and ecology; territorial connectivity and spacing exploration.

On December 25, 2020, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed Executive Order "On Holding the Year of Science and Technology in the Russian Federation" in 2021. The challenge of the Year is to attract talented young people to the realm of science and technology, to increase the professional community involvement in the implementation of the Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation, and to shape a clear idea in people of the initiatives in science and technology being realized by the state and business.
