The Art of a Stamp exhibition is presented at the UPU headquarters in Berne (Swiss Confederation). The exposition includes the Fine Arts of Russia philatelic exhibit and fine art works by Russian artists, the authors of postal miniatures.
The philatelic exhibit contains nearly 300 postage stamps, blocks, stamped envelopes and postcards dedicated to Russian Art. This theme is one of the most popular domains of collecting in the philatelic community. Collectible articles of this theme are indicia dedicated to painting, graphics, sculpture, applied art items, as well as their authors. Russian Art is inimitable and extremely multiform; it mirrors the rich history of the development of our country, the beauty of nature and outstanding heroic feats.
The Marka Publishing House has been keenly promoting the theme of Art on postal miniatures addressing the artworks by the classics of Russian painting, graphics, and sculpture. Every year, the Publishing House produces postal blocks and souvenirs timed to anniversaries of Great Russian artists in the Outstanding People of Art series. The products feature portraits and most well-known paintings of prominent Russian masters of the 19th-20th centuries: I. Levitan, V. Serov, A. Kuindzhi, I. Aivazovsky, V. Vereshchagin, I. Repin, V. Polenov, F. Malyavin, to name just a few. Besides, JSC Marka also puts emphasis on the modern art: the artworks of full members of the Russian Academy of Arts and members of the Union of Artists of Russia. The best works of artists, sculptors and graphic artists are presented on stamps of the Contemporary Russian Art series.
The exhibition displays paintings by artists of JSC Marka: Artyom Adibekov, a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, and members of the Union of Artists of Russia Olga Savina and Sergey Ulyanovsky. Their works mirror the beauty and diversity of Russian nature.
The Russian Federation has been chairing the World Association for the Development of Philately since 2012 and is the undisputed world leader in the organization of valuable postage matter issuance.
Since 2017, JSC Marka has been realizing the Art of a Stamp joint project in association with the Russian Academy of Arts, the Union of Artists of Russia and the Moscow Union of Artists. The Art of a Stamp exhibition has been a success both in Russia and on international venues. In 2020, the Art of a Stamp exhibition was held in the Russian Centers for Science and Culture in Vienna and in Berlin and was devoted to the 75th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The exhibition in Berne will run until the end of October 2021.
