Anna Petrovna Ostroumova-Lebedeva (1871-1955) - artist, engraver, watercolorist. She was born on May 5, 1871 in St. Petersburg. In 1889-1892, she attended the Central School of Technical Drawing of Baron A. L. Stieglitz, where her main teacher was V. V. Mate. In 1892-1900, she studied at the Higher Art School at the Imperial Academy of Arts under V. V. Mate, I. E. Repin, K. A. Savitsky and P. P. Chistyakov, from which she graduated with the title of artist in the class of engraving. Since 1899, she actively participated in the activities of the art association "World of Art" and "Four Arts" (since 1924). Participant of art exhibitions since 1900.
She revived the original Russian woodcut as an independent artistic phenomenon, worked in the technique of lithography and watercolors. A. P. Ostroumova-Lebedeva created an image of a majestic city on the Neva — modern and at the same time classic in its constant expressiveness. With poetic lyricism, the master conveys the peculiar charm of the Northern capital — strict architecture, the brilliance and transparency of the water channels, pale lighting.
Anna Ostroumova-Lebedeva is one of the brightest and most original Russian painters. She has created many watercolors and engravings based on her impressions of traveling in Russia and abroad.
The artist's engravings are in museums in Russia, France, Germany, and the Czech Republic.
In the margins of the postal block, there are paintings by A. Ostroumova-Lebedeva "Interior with a dog" (1917, GRM) and K. Somov "Portrait of A. P. Ostroumova" (1901, GRM), on the stamp-a picture of A. Ostroumova-Lebedeva "View from the Academy of Arts to the Admiralty" (1921, the State Museum of K. A. Fedin).
In addition to the issue of the postal block, envelopes of the first day were issued and special postmarks were made for Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as art covers were published for the postal block with a vignette and an envelope of the first day with a cancellation for St. Petersburg and the second form of issue-a toothless postal block made on designer paper "under canvas".
