On May 21, a card with an original stamp dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Grigory Naumovich Chukhrai, a film director, People's Artist of the RSFSR, People's Artist of the USSR, was released into postal circulation



Grigory Naumovich Chukhray (1921-2001) - Soviet and Russian film director, screenwriter, teacher, public figure, winner of the Lenin Prize (1961), People's Artist of the USSR (1981).

Born on May 23, 1921 in Melitopol (now Zaporozhye region of Ukraine). During the war, he fought in airborne units on the Southern, Stalingrad, Don, 1st and 2nd Ukrainian Fronts. He was wounded three times.

In 1953, he graduated from the Directing department of the VGIK (workshop of S. I. Yutkevich and M. I. Romm). At the same time, he began working at the Dovzhenko Film Studio in Kiev, first as an assistant director, then as a second director. Since 1955-director of the Mosfilm film studio. In 1965-1975, he was the artistic director of the Experimental Creative Association of the Mosfilm Film Studio. He shot more than 10 films, including "The Forty-first" and "The Ballad of a Soldier". For 20 years, he was a member of the Art Council of the Mosfilm film studio. He was twice elected as a member of the party committee of the studio. In 1966-1971. - teacher of VGIK, head of the director's workshop. He taught at the Higher Courses of Directors and Screenwriters. Since 1965-Permanent Secretary of the Union of Cinematographers of the USSR, Chairman of the Fund for the Promotion of Creative Activity and Household Assistance of the USSR Academy of Sciences. From 1964 to 1991-member of the Board of the State Committee of the USSR. Member of the Soviet Committee for the Protection of Peace, member of the Board of Friendship Societies "USSR-Italy", "USSR-Hungary". He has published two books of memoirs ("My War" and "My Cinema", both in the series "About Time and about myself").

Titles and awards: Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV Degree (1996); Order of the Patriotic War, I Degree (1985); Order of the Patriotic War, II Degree (1945); three Orders of the Red Banner of Labor; Order of the Red Star (1944) and others.

The original stamp depicts a portrait of G. N. Chukhrai, a movie camera and a firecracker; the main illustration shows a photo of a working moment from the set of the feature film "Quagmire".

In addition to the issue of the postcard with the original stamp, special postmarks were made for Moscow and St. Petersburg.
