On April 13, 2021, the Honorary President of the Union of Philatelists of Russia, Professor of the MSU Alexander S. Ilyushin passed away unexpectedly at the age of 77.
Alexander Ilyushin was a prominent representative of the international philatelic community, a man of remarkable professional knowledge and personal qualities. He headed the promotion and development of philately among Russian philatelists.
Over the years, Alexander Ilyushin cooperated fruitfully with the Federal Agency of Communications and Joint-Stock Company Marka as a member of the Commission on the state valuable postal matter of the Federal Agency for Communications and the Editorial Board for the issuance of catalogs of the state valuable postal matter.
Alexander Ilyushin was engrossed in philately for more than half a century. He was the founder and the first President of the Union of Philatelists of Russia, an Honorary Member of the Moscow Society of Philatelists, the Union of Philatelists of Armenia and the Rossika Society of Russian Philately (USA), a life member of the American Philatelic Society (USA), a member of the Royal Philatelic Society London, a member of the American Postal Stationery Society (USA) and the Postal Stationery Society of Great Britain; he was a member of thematic philatelic societies Chemistry and Physics on Stamps (USA) and Technotem (Germany), a member of the Slovak Academy of Philately, and an Honorary Member of the National Academy of Philately.
Alexander Ilyushin was a member of the Juries of the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP, since 1988) and the Union of Philatelists of Russia (since 1986). He participated in the activities of the juries of more than 50 World, European and International philatelic exhibitions.
