The Yevgeny Vakhtangov State Academic Theater is a drama theater in Moscow. In 1913, a group of students organized a Student Drama Studio, the head of which was Yevgeny Vakhtangov, director of the Moscow Art Theater. Classes were conducted according to the system of K. S. Stanislavsky. On September 13, 1920, Vakhtangov's studio was accepted into the Art Theater, it became known as the 3rd Studio of the Moscow Art Theater (Moscow Art Theater). The official opening date of the 3rd Moscow Art Theater Studio is considered to be November 13, 1921, on this day the play "The Miracle of St. Anthony", staged by E. B. Vakhtangov, was shown.
"Princess Turandot" based on a fairy tale by Carlo Gozzi, the director's last lifetime performance in early 1922, became to a certain extent a school of acting for all generations of Vakhtangov actors. K. S. Stanislavsky highly appreciated the work of his student. In 1926, the studio was renamed the Yevgeny Vakhtangov Theater-after its founder and first director. In 1956, the theater was awarded the status of an academic theater. Since 2007, the artistic director of the theater is Rimas Tuminas. In 2015, the theater opened a new stage on the Arbat, 24-the room is adjacent to the theater building. In 2016, the "Art Cafe"-a platform for creative evenings, readings and concerts — began to work. Currently, the theater has a theater school named after Boris Shchukin, and the repertoire of the Vakhtangov Theater includes more than 40 performances.
