The postage stamp cancellation ceremony was attended by Valentina Matvienko, the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, and Maksut Shadaev, the Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media. The event was held within the framework of the 500th plenary session of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation
The Federation Council is the upper house of the Federal Assembly, the parliament of the Russian Federation. Its plenary sessions are held as needed, but no less frequently than twice a month. Sessions of the Federation Council are the main form of its activities aimed at discussing and taking decisions and laws on the most important issues of the country, and holding a continual dialogue between the federal center and the regions.
As was stated by Valentina Matvienko, the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Federation Council in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media and JSC Marka prepared a commemorative set of stamps on the occasion of the 500th plenary session of the Council. “I am convinced that the postage stamps will become a valuable gift for everyone interested in the history of Russian Parliamentarism, and as time passes, it may utterly become a valuable philatelic rarity,” she added.
The postal stamp provides an image of a plenary session of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the coat of arms of the Russian Federation. The print run is 50.004 thousand stamps. In addition to the emission of the postage stamp, the JSC Marka produced First Day Covers and a special cancel for Moscow.
Upon completion of the official part of the event, all senators received stamps and envelopes as a gift, along with the commemorative badges of participants in the 500th plenary session of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
