On September 15, an official ceremony took place of special cancellation of a postal block dedicated to the Candle of Memory Monument

The event took place in the State Memorial Museum of Leningrad Defense and Siege. The ceremony was attended by Roman Sheredin, the Deputy Head of the Federal Communications Agency; Evgeny Grigoriev, the Chairman of the St. Petersburg Committee for External Relations; and Elena Tikhomirova, the Chairman of the Residents of Blockaded of Leningrad civic organization.

The Federal Agency of Communications in cooperation with JSC Marka put into postal circulation a block with the print run of 27 thousand copies, which features the Candle of Memory memorial; the margins of the block show Leningrad during the blockade, coats of arms of St. Petersburg and Jerusalem and a fragment of the quote carved on the monument.

It is one of the major monuments commemorating heroic citizens and defenders of blockaded Leningrad installed in Jerusalem that was unveiled in a solemn ceremony on January 23, 2020. The entire composition of the memorial reveals the terrible history of the war, which the inhabitants of the besieged Leningrad lived through. It is also symbolic that the foundation of the monument contains a capsule with earth from the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery in St. Petersburg, where hundreds of thousands of victims of the Siege of Leningrad are buried.

The organizers and the mind behind was a Russian-Israeli group of architects: Anatoly and Lada Chernovs, Udi Kasif and sculptors Vladislav Manchinsky and Adam Steele.

“I am sure that the postal block will become a unique piece and a philatelic rarity among collectors around the world and will forever preserve the memory of today’s event”, the Head of Rossvyaz said.
