On August 25, a postal stamp dedicated to the 175th Birth Anniversary of Kazakh poet, composer and educator Abai Kunanbayev was put into postal circulation



Abai Kunanbayev (1845-1904) was a poet, writer, composer, public figure and the founder of the Kazakh written literature.

Abai’s mindset formation was affected by poets and scientists of the East who adhered to humanist ideas (Ferdowsi, Alisher Navoiy, Nîzamî Gencewî, Fizuli, ibn Sīnā and others), as well as by Russian classic literature and European literature in general. He translated works by Krylov, Lermontov, Pushkin, Goethe and Byron.

The poet is the author of more than 170 poems and 56 translations, dastans, Words of Edification. Abai was also a composer. He created about two dozen tunes that are popular to this day.

The postal stamp provides an Abai Kunanbayev’s portrait, an image of Kazakh yurts and a herd of horses.

In addition to the issue of the postal stamp, JSC Marka will produce First Day Covers and special cancels for Moscow and Baikonur.
