On June 17, a postal block dedicated to the 250th Anniversary of the Russian fleet victory in the Battle of Chesma was put into postal circulation

The battle took place in the Chesma Bay on June 24–26 (July 5–7) of 1770 during the Russian-Turkish War of 1768–1774.

The Russian Navy lost no ships; 11 people died. The Turkish fleet, which for long had been considered invincible, was defeated. The victory in the Chesma Bay played a decisive role during the war, disrupting the communication movements of the Turks and establishing a blockade of one of the straits, namely the Dardanelles.

The postal block provides an image of a fragment of I.K. Aivazovsky’s painting Fight in the Strait of Chios, 1848, Aivazovsky National Art Gallery in Feodosia

In addition to the issue of the postal block, JSC Marka will produce First Day Covers and special cancels for Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sevastopol.
