On June 15, a postcard with a commemorative stamp dedicated to the 200th Birth Anniversary of scientist and engineer Pavel M. Obukhov was put into postal circulation in the History of the Armed Forces of Russia series

Pavel Matveevich Obukhov (1820–1869) was a mining engineer and a metallurgy scientist. He was the founder of large-scale production of cast steel and steel gun barrels in Russia.

In the late 1850s, Obukhov devised a design of a new factory for steel artillery production, which came into commission in 1860 and was named Knyaze-Mikhailovsky plant. This event marked the beginning of the cast steel employment for the production of cannon barrels, which was a turning point in the history of Russian artillery.

The commemorative stamp provides images of Russian warriors of different times; the major image presents P. Obukhov’s portrait and steel cannons.

In addition to the issue of the postcard with a commemorative stamp, JSC Marka will produce special cancels for Moscow and St. Petersburg.
