On May 8, an envelope with a commemorative stamp devoted to the 100th birth anniversary of Nikolai M. Skomorokhov, airplane pilot, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, was put into postal circulation


Nikolai Mikhailovich Skomorokhov (1920–1994) was born on May 19 in a village of Lapot of the Saratov Province (nowadays, Belogorskoe village, Krasnoarmeysky district, Saratov region).

In March 1942, he graduated from the Bataysk Military Aviation Pilot School, and in December of the same year, he got to the front. In total, during the Great Patriotic War, Skomorokhov made 605 weapons sorties, participated in more than 130 air battles, shot down 46 fascist aircrafts individually and 8 planes in a composition of a group (the 7th result on the list of Soviet fighter aces), and destroyed 3 enemy bomber aircrafts on the ground.

The envelope with a commemorative stamp provides an image of the emblem of celebration of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945; the main image features two Gold Star medals and a portrait of Nikolai M. Skomorokhov against a scene of an air fight.

In addition to the issue of the envelope with a commemorative stamp, JSC Marka will produce special cancels for Moscow and Saratov.
